Written Summary   Table One   Table Two   Graphs
Notes:
1. Mean daily temperature and pressure are averaged from the standard 24 hourly observations and not as the average of the maximum and minimum values.
2. Precipitation day has = or >0.01". Trace amounts (< 0.01") are not included in data.
3. Departures from the normal are based on the 1971 to 2000 normals where available (with the exception of the Sea Surface Temperature, which is based on the 1985 to 2000 normal).
Notes:
1. Mean humidity is averaged from the standard 24 hourly observations.
2. Weather Notes indicate a specific condition was observed at least once that day.
3. Departures from the normal are based on the 1971 to 2000 normals where available (with the exception of the Sea Surface Temperature, which is based on the 1985 to 2000 normal).
Key:
PN = Precipitation, PC = Partly Cloudy, MC = Mostly Cloudy, OV = Overcast, DZ = Drizzle, SH = Showers, BS = Blowing Spray GR = Hail, FC = Funnel Cloud, HZ = Haze, RA = Rain, BR = Mist, TS = Thunder Storm/Shower

May began settled with mainly light winds and a few light showers as a ridge built over the area. The high was 73F/23C with a low of 66F/19C and 8.3 hours of sunshine. The 2nd continued settled with light winds. The high was 73F/23C with a low of 65F/19C and 10.5 hours of sun. The 3rd saw the ridge holding its influence across the area, bringing mainly fine conditions with 11.7 hours of sunshine and just a trace of rain. The high was 74F/23C with a low of 68F/20C. The high began to breakdown on the 4th as a tightening pressure gradient and strong wind developed ahead of a slow moving front. However, conditions remained fine with 11.6 sunshine hours, no precipitation, a high of 77F/25C and a low of 69F/21C. The 5th started fair with 5.5 hours of sunshine before the slow moving front edged in from the west to bring showers later on with 0.62" of rainfall. A maximum gust of 35 knots was measured with a high of 77F/25C and a low of 69F/21C. With the front mainly stationary near to the west, skies remained overcast with widespread rain and showers on Friday the 6th. Strong winds gusted to 42 knots, while 1.01" of rain fell. The high was 74F/23C with a low of 69F/20C. The wet and windy weather continued on the 7th with 2.19" of rain on strong southerly winds, as deep nimbostratus held over the area along the slowly eastward-moving boundary. Winds reached 31 knots at the airport with a peak gust to 39 knots and occasional gales/storm-force gusts over higher exposed elevations. There was no measurable sunshine, and the high peaked at 73F/23C with a low of 65F/18C.
On the 8th, clouds slowly cleared by the afternoon as the old boundary moved away to the east. Winds strengthened for a period, but eased light in the evening as high pressure built in from the west. The high was 76F/24C with a low of 66F/19C. There were 9.2 hours of sun with no precipitation. The 9th and 10th continued to be dominated by high pressure with light winds and dry conditions. Both days had a high of 77F/25C and 12.3 hours of sunshine, with a low of 67F/20C on the 9th and 64F/18C on the 10th. High pressure weakened slightly on the 11th bringing a few more clouds (5.6 hours of sunshine), but still no rain. The high reached 76F/25C with a low of 68F/20C. Another fine and dry day on the 12th brought 8.2 hours of sunshine, a high of 76F/25C and a low of 70F/24C. The 13th saw mostly sunny skies (12.2 hours) and the 6th consecutive rain-free day, with a high of 77F/25C and a low of 70F/21C. The 14th was fine and dry once again with 9.1 hours of sunshine, as high pressure slowly retreated from the area. The high was a very warm 79F/26C with a low of 71F/22C. A slow moving frontal boundary then brought 0.68" of morning rainfall in showers and thunderstorms on the 15th. It was breezy too with a gust to 31 knots. Post-frontal clearing during the afternoon allowed for 6.5 hours of sunshine, with a high of 78F/26C. The low was 73F/23C. On the 16th a weak frontal trough moved through around midday. Although there were a couple light showers around, no rain was recorded at the airport and 10.4 hours of sun shone. The high was 78F/26C with a low of 69F/21C. As high pressure built across to the north on the 17th, thin high clouds prevailed on light to moderate easterly winds. The high reached 75F/24C with a low of 69F/20C and 11.2 hours of sunshine.
The 18th brought deep moisture in on moderate to strong southerly winds returning on the back side of the passing high, with low ceilings at times and a couple of mainly morning showers (trace). The high reached a very warm 79F/26C once again, with a low of 73F/23C and 4.9 hours of sun. A slow moving front produced rain and showers from the late morning through evening on the 19th resulting in 0.57" of rainfall. The high was 77F/25C with a low of 73F/23C and just 0.2 hours of sunshine. A post-frontal trough held cloudy (1.9 hours of sun) and wet weather from the morning into the afternoon on the 20th, producing 0.19" of further rainfall. The high reached 77F/25C with a low of 69F/21C. Saturday the 21st saw high pressure becoming re-established across the area, bringing mainly fair conditions with 9 hours of sunshine and just 0.02" of rainfall. The high was 77F/25C with a low of 69F/20C. Sunday the 22nd saw a stalled boundary to the south lift back northward across the Island, bringing extensive cloud (sunshine limited to 4.1 hours) as well as showers and thunderstorms amounting to 0.30" of rain. The high on Sunday was 79F/26C with a low of 71F/22C. Monday the 23rd was unsettled due to semi-stationary frontal boundary near to the west. Early rain and thunder yielded to fair conditions at times, followed by more rain and showers. There were 0.85" of rainfall and 4 hours of sunshine. The high was 78F/26C and the low was 70F/21C. The May 24th Holiday turned out mainly fair with only a trace of rain and 5 hours of sunshine, despite a frontal boundary in the vicinity. The high was a humid 79F/26C, the low a mild 73F/23C. The weak boundary remained blocked over the area by an Atlantic high to the east on the 25th, with no sunshine and 0.13" of rain in a few early and late showers. The high reached 77F/24C with a low of 72F/22C. The 26th saw the convergent boundary continuing to weaken. A few showers brought 0.05" of rain with 4.5 hours of sun. The high was 77F/25C with a low of 70F/21C.
The boundary then dissipated under a ridge of high pressure on Friday the 27th, and provided mainly light winds and mostly sunny skies. A light shower gave just a trace and the high was 79F/26C with a low of 72F/22C, and 11.9 hours of sunshine. High pressure brought settled, dry and sunny conditions on the 28th, with high humidity levels gradually falling. There were 11.3 hours of sun and temperatures rose to 79F/26C. The low was 72F/22C. Sunday the 29th saw high pressure continue with just light winds and only a few clouds. There were 12.6 sun hours and the maximum temperature was 78F/ 26C with a low of 71F/22C. The 30th saw high pressure holding firm, with 12.6 sunshine hours, no rain, a high of 79F/26C and a low of 70F/21C.
