Written Summary   Table One   Table Two   Graphs
Notes:
1. Mean daily temperature and pressure are averaged from the standard 24 hourly observations and not as the average of the maximum and minimum values.
2. Precipitation day has = or >0.01". Trace amounts (< 0.01") are not included in data.
3. Departures from the normal are based on the 1971 to 2000 normals where available (with the exception of the Sea Surface Temperature, which is based on the 1985 to 2000 normal).
Notes:
1. Mean humidity is averaged from the standard 24 hourly observations.
2. Weather Notes indicate a specific condition was observed at least once that day.
3. Departures from the normal are based on the 1971 to 2000 normals where available (with the exception of the Sea Surface Temperature, which is based on the 1985 to 2000 normal).
Key:
PN = Precipitation, PC = Partly Cloudy, MC = Mostly Cloudy, OV = Overcast, DZ = Drizzle, SH = Showers, BS = Blowing Spray GR = Hail, FC = Funnel Cloud, HZ = Haze, RA = Rain, BR = Mist, TS = Thunder Storm/Shower

August 1st saw high pressure as the dominant feature, with one brief shower late, producing 0.02" of precipitation. The high was 84F/29C with a low of 76F/25C and 12.4 hours of sunshine. Similar conditions continued on the 2nd with 0.02" of rain falling in an early shower. The high was 85F/29C, while the low dipped to 78F/26C. 11.2 hours of sunshine were recorded. The high pressure theme continued on the 3rd and 4th with no rainfall. A high of 85F/29C, a low of 79F/26C and 12.2 hours of sunshine were recorded on the 3rd, while a high of 85F/29C, a low of 78F/26C, and 12 hours of sunshine were documented on the 4th. High pressure continued to remain strong over the area on the 5th with fair conditions as distant Tropical Storm Bertha, briefly a hurricane, passed to the west. The high was 86F/30C with a low of 78F/26C and 11.8 hours of sunshine. The 6th saw 10.4 hours of sunshine in advance of a cold front with a high of 87F/31C and a rain-cooled evening low of 76F/24C. A late line of showers brought 0.24" of rain. The front was slow to pass on Thursday the 7th with late-morning and early-afternoon thunderstorms and substantial rainfall totalling 1.31". Cloud to ground lightning affected the airport, damaging some equipment on the airfield. The high reached 82F/28C with a low of 73F/23C and 3.9 hours of sunshine. Friday the 8th saw mainly fair conditions return with 11.7 hours of sunshine and no rainfall. The high was 87F/31C with a low of 77F/25C.
Saturday the 9th saw a slow moving frontal boundary move in, bringing cloudy skies, 2.4 hours of sunshine, a few showers and an afternoon thunderstorm that produced 0.12" of rainfall. The high was 84F/29C with a low of 75F/24C. The 10th saw the quasi-stationary boundary sit over Bermuda producing significant rainfall, with a precipitation total of 2.01". The high was just 77F/25C with a rain-cooled record daily low of 70F/21C. Despite the boundary moving just to the south on the 11th, it still spawned a few showers and a brief thunderstorm later in the day. Precipitation totaled 0.53", with a high of 83F/28C, a cool low of 71F/22C and just 0.5 hours of sunshine. The nearby stationary front continued to bring periods of rain on Tuesday 12th, with thunderstorms, heavier showers, and strong gusts reaching 33 knots. The high was 82F/28C with a low of 73F/23C and 3.8 hours of sunshine. Total precipitation for the day was 0.84". On Wednesday the 13th the front was invigorated by a developing low to the north and this brought early morning thunderstorms along with showers and gusts over 30kts. The front then lifted away to the north as a warm front during the afternoon. The high for the day was 84F/29C with a low of 74F/23C and just 2.4 hours of sunshine. There were 0.40" of rain and the strongest gust was 31 knots.
Conditions settled briefly on Thursday the 14th with only a trace of precipitation recorded. Cloud cover dissipated in the afternoon allowing 6.9 hours of sunshine, a high of 86F/30C and a low of 78F/26C. A light passing shower during the morning of Friday the 15th brought 0.04" of precipitation. Otherwise the rest of the day was fair with 10.1 hours of sunshine, a high of 86F/30C and a low of 78F/25C. Saturday the 16th saw a weak boundary move back across the area. Despite increasing cloud, 8.2 sunshine hours were still recorded. Showers and isolated thunderstorms produced 0.99" of rain, while winds gusted to as high as 32 knots in a shower. The high was 84F/29C with a low of 73F/23C. Sunday the 17th saw the boundary slowly move south of the area with 8.3 hours of sunshine and 0.04" of rainfall. The high was 86F/30C with a low of 77F/25C. The 18th was fair for much of the day, ahead of a weak trough of low pressure with 9.8 hours of sunshine, a high of 86F/30C and a low of 73F/23C. The passage of the trough early in the evening brought a few TSTMs with some cloud to ground lightning, a gust to 33kts at the airport and 0.60" of rain. The 19th brought fair weather as a high pressure ridge to the south held a weak boundary well to the north. After a low of 77F/25C, the high reached 86F/30C with 10.4 hours of sunshine.
