Written Summary   Table One   Table Two   Graphs
Notes:
1. Mean daily temperature and pressure are averaged from the standard 24 hourly observations and not as the average of the maximum and minimum values.
2. Precipitation day has = or >0.01". Trace amounts (< 0.01") are not included in data.
3. Departures from the normal are based on the 1971 to 2000 normals where available (with the exception of the Sea Surface Temperature, which is based on the 1985 to 2000 normal).
Notes:
1. Mean humidity is averaged from the standard 24 hourly observations.
2. Weather Notes indicate a specific condition was observed at least once that day.
3. Departures from the normal are based on the 1971 to 2000 normals where available (with the exception of the Sea Surface Temperature, which is based on the 1985 to 2000 normal).
Key:
PN = Precipitation, PC = Partly Cloudy, MC = Mostly Cloudy, OV = Overcast, DZ = Drizzle, SH = Showers, BS = Blowing Spray GR = Hail, FC = Funnel Cloud, HZ = Haze, RA = Rain, BR = Mist, TS = Thunder Storm/Shower

January began quietly with local high pressure dominating. A light nocturnal shower occurred (trace) after a high of 69F/21C, with a low of 60F/15C and 3.4 hours of sunshine. Monday the 2nd remained dry and mainly calm with high pressure centered over Bermuda. The high reached 71F/22C with a low of 59F/15C and 8.9 hours of sunshine. High pressure remained over the area on Tuesday the 3rd with a high of 71F/22C, a low of 62F/17C, and 4.7 hours of sunshine. The 4th brought strong SSW winds and a couple of passing showers (0.02") in advance of a deepening low to the west. With increasingly cloudy skies (2.0 sun hours), the high reached 73F/23C with a low of 69F/20C. An active front passed on the 5th with cloudy and wet weather. Morning thunderstorms and persistent rain and showers produced a whopping 5.34", with strong pre-frontal southerly winds. The high was 71F/22C with a low of 60F/16C. The 6th was under the influence of high pressure that brought mainly fair conditions with 8.2 hours of sunshine and no rainfall. The high was 72F/22C with a low of 60F/15C. The 7th saw a retreating ridge of high pressure that produced mainly fair conditions with 4.8 hours of sunshine, no rainfall and a peak wind of 32 knots. Foggy conditions dominated mainly across the eastern portion of the Island during the morning hours. The high was 73F/23C with a low of 63F/17C. A cold front passed through on the 8th producing 1.36" of rainfall bringing our monthly total to 6.72". Strong winds preceded and followed the front as we recorded a peak gust of 37 knots. The high was 72F/22C and the low was 59F/15C. The 9th saw a near record tying cold temperature for the day of 53F/12C and a high of only 60F/15C. High pressure to the north with a tight surface gradient brought strong winds and showers (.24" of rainfall) and 5.2 sun hours. Tuesday the 10th was windy with gusts up to 34 knots as cold air mass showers continued to persist under the building high. There was 0.21" of precipitation recorded with a high of 63F/17C, a low of 57F/14C and 7.9 hours of sunshine. A strong ridge maintained breezy conditions on Wednesday the 11th as showers rapidly decreased in the early morning. The high for the day was 66F/19C with a low of 62F/16C and 6.9 hours of sunshine. The 12th saw breezy NE winds and dry weather with the SFC ridge holding to our north. The high reached 68F/20C with a low of 63F/17C and 6.6 sun hours. Friday the 13th was fair and dry with mainly light winds and 7.4 hours of glorious sunshine under continued high pressure influence. The high reached 69F/20C after a low of 63F/17C. The 14th saw a weak frontal boundary move across the area that brought cloudy conditions with only 3.3 hours of sunshine and 0.01 of rainfall. The high was 69F/21C with a low of 62F/17C. The 15th saw another weak cold front move through the area that produced mainly fair conditions with 7.5 hours and a trace of rainfall. The high was 70F/21C with a low of 60F/16C. The 16th saw high pressure slowly build into the area. Mainly fair conditions prevailed with 7.5 hours of sunshine and isolated showers that produced 0.02 of rainfall. The high was 68F/20C with a low of 62F/16C. High pressure provided fair weather for Tuesday the 17th. There was 8.4 hours of sunshine with no rainfall and a high of 68F/20C and a low of 57F/14C. Moderate showers and thunderstorms ahead of a strong cold front produced .81" of rainfall with a peak gust of 38 knots on the 18th. The observed high was 71F/22C and the low was 62F/17C. The departed low pressure system added an additional .51" of rainfall early on Thursday the 19th bringing our monthly total to 8.52". The peak wind with the frontal passage was 44 knots, which was enhanced by area thunderstorms. The high for the day was 69F/21C and the low 60F/15C. 6.6 hours of sunshine was recorded.
